Bethany

When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him… Jesus Said to her “ I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even through they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die…” (John 11: 20-26)

A short distance from Bethphage lies in the Palestinian village of Al Azariyya is Bethany known as the place Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Also known by early Christians by its Greek name Lazarion or place of Lazarus. Bethany played a major role in the Ministry of Jesus, several grand churches were erected over the tomb of Lazarus and over the home of Mary and Martha. The Franciscan Church of Lazarus today is another one of the many churches in the Holy Land designed by the famous Italian architect Antonio Barluzzi. was built in 1952 and stands near the remains of its ancient counterparts. The church features three ornate mosaics portraying Mary, Martha and Lazarus on its façade.
