 Located on the border of the Samarian mountains, Tulkarem was settled by the Canaanites in 3000 B.C. Tombs from early Canaanites were discovered in the vicinity of the city. It later became a Roman post called Birat Soriqa and from the Islamic period onward it was known as Tulkarem. The city took its importance when the Ottomans made it the capital for the egion.
The Tulkarem Archaeological Museum, which is located in the center of the town, includes numerous artifacts from the Roman period onward.
